SPRINT Series: 5-hour Adventure Race
With more than 50,000 acres and nearly 80 square miles of territory, the Uwharrie National Forest is a treasure trove full of beautiful scenery, wildlife and trails for all sorts of activities. This makes the Uwharrie National Forest a perfect location for AR events! The course will consist of some of the areas best hiking and mountain bike trails, and there is a potentially rewarding paddling section, for those who wish to bring their kayak or canoes.
General Requirements
Backpacks and water carrying containers/ bladders/ bottles
Foods and sustenance, sufficient until the next re-supply point, including emergency quantities.
Personal race clothing and footwear suitable for extreme conditions (including accessories such as hats/ gloves, eye protection, watch/compass as required and clothing for water activities).
Extra pair of trekking/running shoes is recommended for smaller treks and kayaking.
Waterproofing/ dry bags to keep personal and team equipment as dry, as necessary.
Water purification device or chemicals – to avoid illness from drinking contaminated water.
Personal medications, permitted analgesics, therapeutic medicines, medical insurance certificates, allergy or illness identification, sun protection.
Map waterproofing / waterproof map bags and route plotting equipment (if required).
Emergency whistle
Headlamp gear (If required due to shorter daylight hours.)
MTB Requirements
Bike repair kit (including pump, tubes, tools and spare parts).
Helmet
Rear light
Front light (If riding at night.)
Paddle Gear
Personal Flotation device (PFD)
Kayak and Paddles will be provided however you can bring your own paddles
Glow sticks (If paddling at night.)
Pre-Race: Teams must comply with any registration procedures, equipment and
competency checks and attend all compulsory meetings and functions as scheduled by the Race Organizer.
Equipment: Teams and athletes must carry mandatory equipment as described in the
Required Equipment List, as well as any race specific items directed by the Race Organizer.
Race Course: Teams must complete the race course as directed by the Race Organizer, and through race checkpoints (CPs) and transition areas (TAs), by the racing discipline specified, using the maps provided by the Race Organizer.
Team: Teams must travel and complete the course together, without substitution, and with team members being close enough to see and communicate verbally with each other at all times.
Emergencies, Medical and Communications: Any team who encounters a medical
emergency, be it in their own team or another team, or external to the event, must stop
to render assistance. A time credit will be provided in the event an assisting team aids in assisting an injured person.
Environment: Teams must treat the environment and landscape of the course with respect and leave minimal evidence of their racing.
Conduct: Athletes must conduct themselves in a respectful manner at all times,
without cheating, abuse behavior, language or violence.
Penalties: Teams who do not complete the course as directed, and in accordance with the rules, may receive a time penalty, an Unranked (UR) status, a Did Not Finish (DNF) status or a Disqualification (DQ)

Teens 12 -1 5 Race FREE
Teens race free with an accompanying Mom or Dad participating! Great bonding opportunity and sharing an outdoor experience together!
Optional Paddling Section
We realize that paddling may not be a strong suit for some adventure racers, so strategy comes into play, as Paddling Section checkpoints are worth double! (2 points each) Bring your own kayak or canoe, if you would like to choose this section as part of the race. Adventure racing is a great balance of pace, efficiency, and strategy!
